Community Service - People Helping People: Get involved Now.

Our Purpose

The purpose of Grow 2 Feed is to create and sustain a community supported program for both novice and experienced gardeners to plant and grow garden produce to be donated to local food banks, soup kitchens, and service organizations to help feed America's hungry. Grow 2 Feed provides focus, direction, and support to local volunteers who execute the programs.

buildingWhere it all began
The Grow 2 Feed program first began in the spring of 2010. It started as a small garden located behind a local church near Chicago. The first garden was small, the ground was hard, the weeds were tall and a small inexperienced team of volunteers used shovels and rakes to clear the weeds and break up the ground so they could plant just a few rows of vegetables. The volunteers all knew that whatever they could grow would go to the local food pantry and somehow they managed to grow a few vegetables from that tiny garden.
buildingGrow More = Feed More
After that first delivery of fresh vegetables to the food pantry our team of volunteers quickly realized that with a little more land they could grow a lot more produce and feed many more people. The program started to grow. We leased a few plots of land and we made several more deliveries of fresh vegetables to the food pantry for distribution.

Get Involved - Now you can get involved and help grow fresh produce to feed the hungry. This year we will be planting at least 10 garden plots (maybe more) and you can get involved either by donating your time or donating materials to help grow fresh vegetables. Wherever you are located, we have ways for you to get involved. Just check out the get involved section of our website.

Hunger is a global problem, but hunger in our own neighborhoods is something we should be able to solve if we act together.
